Kingdom of Cambodia

30 days had passed in Thailand and that meant that we needed to leave the country on a visa run. What better place to go than the beautiful temples of Siem Reap, Cambodia!? The bus ride via Krabi-Bangkok-Poipet-Siem Reap took the better part of two days, but the border crossing on land was an interesting experience to say the least. We managed to get lucky, choosing a great hostel that was not smack in the middle of the tourist area, and cost only $9 a night. (One weird thing about Cambodia is that the US Dollar is their main form of currency, using their local money as small change only). Our friendly bartender Henrik had good suggestions on local entertainment and served ice-cold beer that was cheaper than water (uh-oh). We took the first day to relax and scope out the town. Siem Reap is a great place to visit for a week, and judging by the amount of ex-pats living there it would be an easy place to get stuck for 10 years.

The main attraction here is the amazing Angkor Wat and surrounding temples. We purchased a 3-day pass and connected with a friendly tuk-tuk driver to tour the ruins throughout the week. I have to admit that after 5 hours in the blazing heat all the temples start to look the same, but as you can see by the pictures these ruins are incredible and very worth seeing. This might be an overload of pictures, but how could we resist! Spending a week in Siem Reap was great because we took days off between touring, otherwise we would have been overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead, it was a relaxing vacation from farm life in Thailand, and the perfect way to refresh our Visas for another month in Krabi. Enjoy the photos!
